System 5 Troubleshooting Guide

LCD Display/Buttons Don't Work

Replacing the Battery
Front Panel:
LCD screen is hard to read or totally unreadable
Try adjusting contrast control know on back of the System 5.
Ensure System 5 is turned on and power source is functioning properly.
Look for visible damage (i.e. dropped, cracked screen, etc.).
Power down, then back up (after 15 seconds).
Certain softkeys don't work
Ensure that proper overlay is being used.
Ensure that key is to be used in your particular program.
The only thing one can do concerning the parts related to the front panel of the System 5 Timer is check operating setups to ensure nothing has been changed.
The easiest way to do this is simply to power down the System 5 and then power up after approximately 15 seconds.

Back Panel:
This is a listing of all the connections on the back of your System 5 Timer and a brief description of each.
For further instructions, please refer to your System 5 Timer Manual.
Primary Input
This is your primary connection to your touchpads and backup pushbuttons, through the use of wallplates and associated cabling or through the use of on-deck cabling, depending on your situation.
Backup Input
This is an auxiliary connection that serves the same purpose as the Primary Input (functions are both the same). Some situations require that both the Primary and Backup Inputs are used simultaneously.
Far End Input
This is the connection that allows, through necessary cabling and harnesses or in-deck systems, the use of pads for far-end splits to register on the timer.
SCBD
This connects your scoreboard to the System 5 through its necessary cabling.
Judges I/O
Used only for diving and synchronized swimming. This connection ties the Judges I/O box (in which the Judging Consoles are plugged into), to the System 5.
COM 1
Port connection that is typically used by Meet Management Software. Refer to the literature included with the software for its proper setup.
COM 2
Port connection that is typically used in interfacing to television adapters.
COM 3
Port connection that is used solely for downloaded original or upgraded software into the timer through the use of a PC. Software is typically pre-installed and need not be installed prior to first use.
Printer
Parallel port connection that is typically used to run a printer that immediately, without the use of another computer, prints splits and final times. Also used in certain water polo setups.
Power Input
12 Volt DC power input supplied by external power supply. Can serve as a primary power source, or as a backup to battery power.
Contrast Adjustment knob
Controls contrast of LCD screen read-out.

System 5 Battery Replacement
Locate the battery compartment on the bottom of your System 5 Timer. Remove the cover and notice the eight D-Cell batteries and their orientation.
Replace batteries with only alkaline batteries. Rechargeable Ni-Cad batteries will give a false reading on life remaining.
NOTE: THE POWER BRICK SUPPLIED WITH YOUR SYSTEM 5 IS NOT A RECHARCHING BRICK. RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES ARE NEVER TO BE USED IN THIS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT.
ANY OTHER POWER SUPPLY USED IN THIS EQUIPMENT MAY DAMAGE THE DELICATE CIRCUITRY AND COULD VOID THE WARRANTY.
